Joan, the owner, is a very pleasant woman who was more than helpful in everything. She helped with directions, travel arrangements, where to eat, what to see and even told us of a great show that night we would otherwise would not have known about. Joan and her B&B are welcoming, but also let you get on with your trip. This being my first experience at a B&B, I did not once feel like I was intruding. To my surprise, there was a toilet in every room to allow more privacy. The Periwinkle is just a short and pleasant walk from Galway city center or the Salthill area. The only issue was that pictures of the area made me think that we would have a view of the sea, but it was a block away. It was not something I missed as it was unnecessary to the overall stay.

Just to add to the comments. I stayed in Galway in Joan's B & B. I was extremely impressed and enjoyed by stay thoroughly. Joan is an excellent host and provides a great wholesome breakfast. She is also extremely helpful and offers help in any way she can. We felt really relaxed there and would definetly return. Thanks Joan see you again sometime.

Joan is an outstanding hostess. My sister & I stayed @ Periwinkle for 4 nights. Joan took care of so many details: booking Aran Island transportation, helping us plan our days, helping us when our rental car broke down (she managed to convince the agency that a replacement car was in order). Staying at the Periwinkle was a highlight of our trip. No other B&B compared! I highly recommend Joan's B&B!

My girlfriend and I stayed here in June '10. The rooms were nice, the breakfast was delicious, the hostess was phenomenally helpful in booking tours and helping us enjoy our time in Galway. Also, the b&b is decorated with beautiful paintings done by the hostess herself.

My parents spent 3 days in Perwinkle, they don't speak English at all but they had a great time thanks to Joan who helped them to choose and organize the trips! They've asked to me to write this post. The place was really good, clean and quite! I'll hope to go too.

Joan is the perfect Irish hostess! The accomodations are wonderful, so comfortable and welcoming. We enjoyed the variety of delicious breakfast choices. Each morning at breakfast Joan made arrangements for us with the O'Neachtain tour company for trips to Connemara, the Burren, and the Aran Islands. She even called the taxi to take us to the bus station for our trip further south. When we return to Galway, we will definitely stay with Joan at the Periwinkle B & B.

I stayed with Joan over St. Patricks day this year and she was a doll! She would make me Irish coffee at night and treated me like one of her own children. If I go back to Galway, I will definitely stay with her again.

We found the Periwinkle on the web and I am so pleased with our choice as we had a 'home from home' stay with Joan. Our room was lovely and warm and very clean. Food absolutely lovely and the company over breakfast was so friendly. Joan is a first class landlady and a warm & caring person who makes her guests so welcome. Highly recommended.

While attending a seminar in Galway recently, I choose to stay at Periwinkle B&B. Joan is the perfect hostess - warm and friendly, wide choice of well presented breakfasts, very clean accomodation with pleasant decor. I was so impressed with the artwork by the lady herself! The perfect place to relax close by the sea. Thank you Joan and Adrienne for your hospitality.

Hubby and I spent three nights under Joan's roof and can't thank her enough for her hospitality. Joan is a warm person who, as other's have said, can't do enough to make her guests feel at home. Joan is a mine of information and is always ready with a suggestion on how to fill ones day. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending "The Periwinkle."

My friend and i spent 4 days staying at the periwinkle B&B and couldnt of hoped for a nicer place to stay while in Galway!! Joan the Owner was brilliant, could't do enough for her guests, especially in our case. Always asking if we needed anything, organising our trips for us, giving us lots of ideas to do in Galway and excellent suggestions for resturants and bars, which for a couple of 22 year olds who like "socialising" was perfect. Thank you so much for making our trip to Galway the best! when we return to the city, we wont hesitate to stay with Joan at the Periwinkle again. See you soon Kimberley xxxxx

Joan is very attentive, pleasant and hard working--and a gifted artist as well. Periwinkle is in a prime quiet location within a nice walk to the quay, Galway city center or Salthill. Joan shares many good suggestions for getting about; ask about the Neachtain tours. Also, the food is served in a setting that gives one pause to reflect and remember.

The Periwinkle is a great location in Galway. Nice to be able to park the car safely... We walked both ways - to City Centre and the boardwalk to Salthill area. Either direction is a comfortable walk. The room we had was on the ground floor, easily accessible and clean with tea and coffee provided. Joan was very helpful with directions etc. each day and had some great stories to tell as well. Breakfast was very good and certainly plentiful! Loved the soda bread.

Periwinkle is set near from the Galway City Centre, very close to the Salt Hill Prom and, meanwhile, it's easy to reach it by car. The house is cosy and breakfast is just great. But the most important is that Joan, the hostess, is so sweat and welcoming that you feel as if you were a guest at one of your family's place. And she delivers good advices for tourism in Connemara, Burren...
